General

The village of Measham sits within Leicestershire and is able to call the picturesque backdrop of the National Forest its home; with Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire all a short drive away.

Of Saxon origin, the name of the village is thought to mean homestead on the River Mease and has an illustrious history.

As a former industrial village, Measham is brimming with character and famed for being
the home of popular trades including banking, brewing, coal mining and brick making. The village also developed a reputation for its exquisite Measham Ware teapots during the 19th and 20th centuries due to the abundance of clay and extraction in the area.

Measham boasts its own range of shops and amenities and sits within close proximity of several popular tourist attractions and activities. In the heart of the village, residents
can choose between a Tesco Express and a Co-op for day-to-day shopping as well as a pharmacy, petrol station, several takeaways, and convenience stores. The village is home to
two country pubs – The Bird in Hand and The White Hart – both offering a fine selection of
food and drink.

Measham has a number of walking and cycle trails linking the village to neighbouring villages such as Oakthorpe, Willesely, Donisthorpe and Moira – home to the Moira Furnace and the Ashby Canal.

Local Area

Just under 4 miles away, the thriving market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch offers the conveniences and amenities suited to the needs of modern day living – from a large M&S Food Hall to an abundance of independent eateries, cafés and bars.
