We always enjoy taking you behind the scenes in order to give a deeper insight into how we work and to meet some of the individuals that make up our incredible team. For our latest spotlight blog, we caught up with one of the newest members of the team – our Quantity Surveyor, Daniel.
How long have you worked for Peveril Homes?
I’ve worked for Peveril Home for four months now. The team has welcomed me with open arms and we have some very exciting new projects on the horizon, so I’m really looking forward to getting involved more and more as time goes on.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
I graduated from Nottingham Trent University and went straight into Quantity Surveying for Kier Infrastructure. While I was there I worked on a landmark project in Plymouth, giving me a valuable insight into the industry and how it operates. After leaving the Infrastructure sector, I briefly dipped my toe into the rail industry before I found my calling with new-build homes. I spent 2 years working for Barratt Homes before making the move to Peveril Homes in October 2019.
What is your role at Peveril and what does it include?
As a Quantity Surveyor, the main focus for my role is to manage all of the costs for the development’s I’m assigned to – from tender stage right through to completion. This includes appointing subcontractors, managing accounts and reporting back to the wider business. It’s great for me because I get the opportunity to meet other team members from different departments right across the business and really get under the skin of how a housebuilder operates.
What made you want to join Peveril Homes?
Peveril really stood out for me. The business strives for quality over speed, which really sets it apart and this ethos is engrained within all of its internal processes. The team has built a reputation not just for building homes, but building communities. With Peveril being family-owned, you really feel part of a team and part of a wider, close knit family that’s pulling in the same direction.
What’s been the highlight of your career to-date?
One of highlights of my career has to be when in a previous role, I took over a development that was massively over budget. The project was delayed and on the brink of being halted – and it wasn’t without its challenges. However with the help of the site team, we completely turned the project around. We appointed new contractors and utilised different engineering techniques, resulting in us making it the most profitable site in the region!
What’s the first project you’re working on for Peveril Homes?
When I joined I was appointed to manage two established sites – allowing me to hit the ground running. From this, I’ve been able to see exactly how Peveril operates and quickly get to grips with the practises and procedures we have in place. Our Smalley Manor and Holborn View developments are run by very experienced site teams – both of which have been incredibly helpful and brought me up to speed as quickly as possible.
What are you looking forward to most in your role?
I’m now in the process of working on a new development from the very beginning and I’m really excited to get stuck into it! It will provide me with a great opportunity to lay the commercial groundwork in order to ensure that as a team, we meet our collective targets.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Everyone I’ve spoken to has expressed what a wonderful company Peveril is to work for. There’s a lot of experienced and loyal staff here that have grown and developed with the business. Peveril Homes really does have the feel of a family-run company where the staff and customers are not simply an afterthought. They are seen as the life blood of the business – and rightly so. Everyone I’ve met at Peveril has been very patient and extremely generous with their time – which has helped me to settle in incredibly quickly.
