How long have you worked for Peveril Homes?
I joined the company in March 2019 – so I’ve now been here for 9 months.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background
I’m a Wolverhampton man born and bred and I’ve been working in the construction industry for over 33 years – how time flies! I took on my first Site Manager role in 1987 and I haven’t looked back since. Previous employers have included Redrow and Bloor Homes to name a few and I have to say, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in the industry to-date.
What made you want to join Peveril Homes?
I’ve worked for many volume builders over the years and the pace is often 100mph plus! I wanted a change of scene and when I saw the opportunity to join Peveril, it wasn’t one I could ignore. I’d already heard about Peveril and its parent company Bowmer & Kirkland – so I knew both had excellent reputations in their respective industries.
My mantra is centred around quality, safety and speed – and Peveril focuses on the two most important – quality and safety – without feeling the need to rush things. Volume builders on the other hand, often want all three at the same time and it’s just not realistic unless you want to compromise on the quality and safety aspects.
The team at Peveril would rather take their time and get things right first time – which sits really well with me. I genuinely wish I’d found Peveril Homes 15 years ago – coming here has been a breath of fresh air!
What’s been the highlight of your career do-date (apart from joining Peveril Homes of course!)
I’ve been very lucky over the years to have worked with great teams on some really exciting projects. I’ve also been nominated for and won a few awards along the way, including three LABC awards and six NHBC awards. As with most people in my sort of role, I never go out looking for awards but it’s always nice to be recognised for a job well done.
What’s the first project you’re working on for Peveril Homes?
Initially I’m responsible for overseeing successful delivery at Chamberlain Place in Measham. The aim is to deliver 27 units over 18 months initially – a welcome change compared to previous employers who would often expect to see 33 units completed in 10 months.
I think Chamberlain Place will go down really well with purchasers because there’s a great range of property types that showcase exceptional brickwork and fine rendering, giving this development a unique appearance. It’s a lovely part of the world to call home right on the fringes of the National Forest and has plenty for families to enjoy in the local area.
I can’t wait to continue the amazing progress we’ve already made at Chamberlain Place and watch it grow over the next year and a half – this is the really exciting and rewarding part!
