Meet Adam Butcher – your new site manager at The Mallards in Bilsthorpe
How long have you worked for Peveril Homes?
I joined the company in March 2019 – so I’ve now been here for eleven months, how time flies!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background
I started out in the construction industry after five years service in the Royal Navy after I left school. My first role was as a labourer before going on to be a ground worker and then building my experience to the stage where I wanted to take on the challenge of managing people and sites.
Previous employers have included Bridge Back and Woodhead Group before working across a number of sites in the region through agencies. This has all given me greater understanding of a wide cross section of developments.
What made you want to join Peveril Homes?
Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about Peveril Homes and a couple of my former colleagues already work for the company. The feedback from them has been excellent and it’s always sounded like a great place to work.
What sets Peveril Homes apart in the industry?
The thing that really sets Peveril apart from what I’ve seen and heard so far is the focus on quality over quantity. Rather than trying to churn out hundreds of homes per year like some businesses in the new homes marketplace, the team here are totally focused on quality and put the customer first.
The company is also able to form successful long-term partnerships with subcontractors which is impressive – and most of those relationships have been over a number of years rather than just months. This gives Peveril consistency because the team knows when a job is likely to be completed and ensures each project is done on time and to the highest specification.
Health and safety is also paramount to Peveril and this is something that means a lot to me in the workplace. I’ve been a big advocate of it everywhere I’ve worked and I’ll make sure we adhere to all policies and procedures on my sites.
What’s the first project you’re working on for Peveril Homes and what does the foreseeable future hold?
I’m initially getting stuck into The Mallards in Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, which when completed in August 2020 will be an intimate development of 16 dwellings.
The build programme is on track and looking to achieve its original completion date – so I’m looking forward to seeing the site take shape over the coming months. The support I’ve received from the team above me has been first class – nothing is too much trouble and if I need something to help make life on site easier or safer, I get it.
The business is really with the times and understands that its people are its strength. My hope is that I can progress within the company and manage larger developments once The Mallards is completed.
