Peveril Homes donates £1000 to local primary school for sensory garden
Peveril Homes is thrilled to sponsor Shobnall Primary School’s new sensory garden in Burton-on-Trent, by donating £1000 to the project.
The mixed-texture garden will promote wellbeing and further enhance and support nurture provision in the school. The donation will be put towards materials, a wide array of beautiful flowers and different species of shrubs.
Dave Adams, headteacher of Shobnall Primary School is very proud of the plans and said: “A handful of the pupils’ parents have expertise in landscaping, and they have helped to design a beautiful sensory garden to be built within the appropriate confines of the school field.
“Volunteers from the surrounding community will contribute their time and resources to help with building the raised beds and paths on Saturday mornings over the winter months, ready for planting in the spring.”
The garden will feature a textured path, flower beds filled with scented flowers, trees and different types of shrubs to attract wildlife and insects. Over the next few months, the children will also take part in a project to assemble bird boxes to help the local population of robins, sparrows, and many more.
Once completed, the primary pupils will benefit from a quiet area to visit on break times, where they can appreciate the sounds and smells. Dave said: “We envision this space to be a reflective area for our pupils where they can relax without interruption.”
Shobnall Primary School decided on where to build the purposeful Sensory Garden because of the field’s good ground, protection of shade and the abundance of open space, giving them lots of scope to plan the design.
The children will form a gardening club to maintain the upkeep of the garden, keeping it beautiful for future generations to experience.

Planning for the future, the school hopes to establish a vegetable garden, which will promote environmental sustainability and wellbeing. It will also act as an ongoing extracurricular provision for children of Shobnall Primary School. We have also recently supported a pony hack in support of Cancer Research UK.
